Mega Dance Musical Features Traditional Indian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, and Ballet Dances to Help Raise Funds for Survivors of Abuse in Central Illinois

Peoria, IL – The Caterpillar Asian Indian Community (CAIC) and Mythili Dance Academy, Peoria (MDA) are proud to present “Tale of The Anklets” – a mega dance musical to benefit the Center for Prevention of Abuse (CFPA) on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Washington Five Points in Washington, IL. Rama Suresh, the Artistic Director of Mythili Dance Academy, directs the dance musical.

“This year’s event tells the story of a passionate romantic tale, full of love, temptation, sorrow, and redemption,” said Rama Suresh. “The production is truly a community event, as it features dancers from all over Central Illinois and featured dancers from Dallas, Texas in many different styles. It is complete with bright and vibrant costumes, creative choreography, and fantastic music. This year, we are proud to help raise funds to benefit the Center for Prevention of Abuse so they can continue providing crucial services in our community for abuse survivors.”

This captivating show will feature more than 120 local and national dancers in a variety of diverse cultural dance styles and dance forms. The dances include Indian classical, folk, Bollywood, and contemporary, modern and fusion dance styles along with Chinese, Middle Eastern, and ballet dances. Cornerstone Ballet, Peoria, Springfield Chinese Association, Peoria Chinese Association and Zakira’s Mediterranean Dance Academy, Dallas will be featured in this program along with MDA’s dancers.

“We are excited to partner with The Caterpillar Asian Indian Community and Mythili Dance Academy for this incredible performance event,” said Carol Merna, Executive Director of the Center for Prevention of Abuse. “We know that abuse can happen to anyone of any race, any religion, any background, any socioeconomic status, any age, and at any walk of life. This event will help us to raise funds and awareness of our free and confidential services for all people in Central Illinois seeking to live in peace. Nearly 90 cents from every dollar goes directly to client services.”

Tickets for adults are $30 and tickets for children younger than 12 are $20.

This is the third time CAIC and Mythili Dance Academy have put together a performance event to benefit a Central Illinois not-for-profit. Proceeds from this year’s event benefit CFPA and help to fulfill its mission of helping all people—women, men, and children – live free from violence and abuse.
